Recognize an outstanding lecturer in your field!
Every year, the University of Tartu Student Union recognizes the outstanding work of one teaching staff member per faculty. The recognition process is governed by the university-wide Statute of annual awards, a Rector’s decree from June 2021, and the Electoral Procedure of the Student Union.
Nominations can be presented by a single student or by a group of students, highlighting their praise and relationship with the teaching staff member. Nominations can be submitted year-round. For the nominee to be considered in the 2022 competition, nominations must be submitted by 20 December 2022.
NB! This recognition cannot be awarded to winners from the past year. In 2021, the following teaching staff members were recognised: Antonina Kostina, Triin Vihalemm, Külli Kingo, Ene Kook.
What the students pointed out about the winners of Best Teaching Staff Award 2021:
Antonina Kostina: consciously creates an open and supportive learning environment; helps develop presentation, analytical and teamwork skills, critical thinking, and digital competencies.
Triin Vihalemm: the lectures are up-to-date and with exciting discussions; the feedback to the students is impellent, inspiring and explicit; the professor has a student-friendly attitude and she gives the opportunity to really contribute to the development of Estonia.
Külli Kingo: thorough and intelligent, an excellent communicator, helps to solve problems, explains the material in an inspiring and understandable way and uses various methods that support and control learning.
Ene Kook: a good-natured, professional, but strict and demanding lecturer with exceptional knowledge and perfectly organized subjects; she loves the field and teaching from the bottom of her heart.
Submit a proposal for the Academic Achievement of the Year!
In addition, it is also possible to choose and recognize the Academic Achievement of the Year. The award recognizes up to three learning actions that value effective collaboration, development, and innovation in university degree and continuing education. Proposals can be submitted by the dean or the head of the structural unit or jointly by at least five students, continuing education learners or university staff.
To participate in the 2022 competition, nominate the Academic Achievement of the Year before December 20, 2022.
The three learning activities that received the Academic Achievement of the Year 2021 award:
1) Development of the clinical practice in physiotherapy’s master’s program: supplementing the content of the 440-hour clinical practice, more flexible organization of the practice, adding learning tasks and Moodle support.
2) Experience seminars on teaching methodology development in the Faculty of Science and Technology and in the Institute of Estonian and General Linguistics: regular peer seminars where the participants share their teaching development experience and offer each other support to change teaching methods.
3) Estonian and Maths state exam courses for high school students: development and organization of courses supporting passing the state exams. 1000 students took part in the Estonian course and 1622 students took part in the Maths course.
