Since spring 2023, UTSU has been supporting the activities and development of student organisations, funded by the University of Tartu Rector’s Development Fund. Within the university, this initiative to engage student organisations has been dubbed the Catalyst. The Catalyst has two parts: the Student Organisation Development Fund and Tiksula. Funding began when, in the 2022/23 academic year, UTSU applied for a year’s worth of project funding from the Development Fund. The application was approved, and thanks to the project's successful execution and agreement among both parties, the project's timeframe has now been extended.
The goal of UTSU’s Student Organisation Development Fund is to support student organisation projects that contribute to the objectives of the University of Tartu’s development plan and strengthen the connection between the university and its students. The fund has three application rounds each year. Projects supported by the Development Fund include, for example, the UT Sports Society’s Spring Run, the Estonian Psychology Students’ Association Autumn School, the Science and Technology Autumn School by the Estonian Physics and UT Chemistry Students’ Society, and the Environmental Week by the Biosciences Students' Association, among others. TIKSULA is a space managed by UTSU, intended for hosting various events. The room is available for rent by both University of Tartu student organisations and other interested parties. UT student organisations can rent the space for a symbolic fee, while a general price list applies to other users. Read more about Tiksula.
