For over twenty years, UTSU has organised a night library every semester together with the University of Tartu Library, which means that during exam sessions the library is open for studying longer than usual, for four weeks.
The aim of the night library is to support students during particularly difficult exam and thesis writing periods and to offer them a place where they can study together until late at night, do homework and motivate each other. Especially since students are often at work, school or doing hobbies during the day. Over the years, the night library has also had several sponsors who have distributed drinks or snacks to students, and therapy dogs have visited during evening classes to relieve tension.
In December 2023, we also tested the option of a morning library for the first time, giving morning people the opportunity to come to study from six in the morning. There were early learners, but rather few. Experience has shown that students prefer to acquire knowledge in the evenings, which is why we continued the tradition of the night library in subsequent exam sessions.
