Project Fund

From March 2025, the student councils of the University of Tartu institutes, colleges, and faculties will be able to apply for funding from the UT Student Councils' Project Fund. The fund aims to support projects initiated by student councils within the University of Tartu institutes, colleges, and faculties, which contribute to achieving the goals outlined in the University of Tartu development plan and the UT Student Union's development plan. Additionally, it supports the active engagement of UTSU student representatives.

Applications for the Project Fund can be submitted throughout the year but must be submitted at least 30 days before the project's implementation. During the spring semester, the final deadline for applications is May 31. In the autumn semester, the first date for submission is August 21. If you wish to carry out a project in September, you must submit your application between 21-25 August, in which case the 30-day rule does not apply. Applications are evaluated by an assessment committee consisting of the three-member student union board. The results will be announced within one week of submission.

Requirements for Project Applications:

  • Applications can be submitted by all student councils of the University of Tartu faculties, institutes, and colleges, provided that the mandates of the student representatives submitting the application are valid (i.e., not expired or suspended).
  • The maximum amount that can be applied for is €250*.
  • The applicant must provide proof that financial support has been sought from the academic unit’s governing body, where student representatives have seats, and that the request was denied.
  • All expenses related to the planned project must be incurred by December 31, 2025.
  • The project must contribute to achieving the objectives of UTSU’s development plan.

*In justified cases, the assessment committee may approve funding exceeding the standard amount.

How to Apply for Funding from the Development Fund:

  1. Develop a project concept that is ambitious, contributes to achieving UTSU’s development plan’s goals, reaches a broad student audience, and meets the required criteria.
  2. Apply for funding from your institute, college, or faculty unit. If you receive a negative response or insufficient funding from your academic unit, proceed with the UTSU Project Fund application.
  3. Download and complete the project application form. The form must be signed by a student council member who can confirm the approval of all student council members.
  4. Send the signed project application form to tyye@ut.ee at least 30 days before the project's implementation.

An UTSU representative will confirm receipt of the application and its compliance. The assessment committee will inform you of their decision within five working days.

If your application is approved, proceed with implementing your project, ensuring active and engaging promotion. Use UTSU’s logo in your promotional materials and, if needed, seek assistance from UTSU’s communications/marketing specialist. Keep all expense-related documents, which will be required for the financial report submission to UTSU’s Chairman (renar.kihho@ut.ee) after the project’s completion. Additionally, be prepared to submit a reflective activity report and, where possible, provide project-related photographs for sharing on UTSU’s channels.
