UTSU'S GENERAL ELECTION RESULTS I
UTSU'S GENERAL ELECTION RESULTS II
The candidates have answered three questions:
Talis Timmi
I am conscientious and hardworking, which makes me a reliable person to work with. In addition, I already have a year of experience as a student representative.
I am currently the learning quality specialist of the faculty student council, which is why learning quality is especially important to me. I wish to continue my current work and contribute to the ongoing curriculum reform.
In the context of the ongoing curriculum reform, it is important to ensure that students are actively involved in that process and are able to express their opinions and ideas. In addition, since the Estonian parliamentary elections are approaching, broader attention must be paid to the funding of higher education.
Ove Üllar Viesemann
In the fall semester, I will start the second year in the Linguistics MA program and now that I am in my second semester in UT, I am confident that I have what it takes to successfully represent fellow students and relay their voice to make our student life better. For my undergraduate degree, I traveled to South Korea and based on this experience I am able to provide a fresh perspective to different tasks. In the last year of my undergraduate studies, I was also a member of the International Student Association there, where I gained invaluable experience supporting my fellow students.
What is most important to me is that students should be supported a lot with their mental health, because especially when studying full-time, we often set our mental well-being aside and so we need to be proactive about it. I am also for equal treatment of everyone, regardless of how different or not they are from others. Thirdly, I believe that in our institutes and faculties the opinion of our students should be reflected more as in what and when we want to learn, because based on personal experience, it is difficult to plan my studies when some subjects happen only once every two years... And of course I hold close to my heart the well-being of international students, because I was an international student myself for four years far away from my homeland.
In my opinion, the visibility of the student union and communication with other students are crucial, because in my opinion the union is a little bit lacking in these areas. Another important point is reflecting students' needs in curricula. It would also be great, if we could lay the foundation for a student cafeteria, because meal planning is a relevant problem in my social circle.
Aleksander Koppel
I have enough hatred about the current chaos and experience to know why things stay chaotic.
It is difficult to choose between student welfare and equal treatment, because these are very intertwined issues.
Elections are coming, so we need to shape the country's politics with our voices.
Elisabeth Pae
Over the past two years, I have gained experience with both the institute-level and faculty-level student councils, which has given me valuable insight into the inner workings of the university. Having been exposed to both, I understand which issues require attention and the direction we should be moving in. I am collaboration-oriented and believe it is better to do less but do it well, rather than doing more in a rushed or ineffective way.
It is very important to me that all students, faculty, and staff feel treated equally in the academic environment. The truth is that addressing unequal and undignified treatment at the university is flawed and needs to be improved. My goal is to ensure that students have easy access to the information they need. Students need to feel that the university has solid ways to resolve problems.
Without a doubt. Higher education funding. In light of the parliamentary elections next academic year, it is imperative to continue focusing on the funding of higher education. As a student representative, I believe that the topic requires constant work, because funding directly affects the quality of education, student motivation, and most importantly, students welfare.
Merit Ots
I am a cheerful and proactive person who believes that the world becomes a better place through kindness and cooperation. My experience as a tutor, a student representative at my institute, and as an communication and event marketing intern at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities has allowed me to meet inspiring people who deeply care about the University of Tartu and its well-being, while also helping me develop valuable skills.
For me, the well-being of students is the most important. I also believe it is important that the learning environment is pleasant and supportive which leads to academic success.
I believe that in the upcoming academic year, the Student Union could place more emphasis on strengthening students’ sense of community, so that everyone feels they belong and no one has to face their concerns alone.

Minu jaoks on oluline jätkata õppekavade reformiga, millega möödunud õppeaasta vältel oleme palju tegelenud.
* põhikooli ja gümnaasiumi õpilasesindustes
* Õpilasesinduste Liidu korraldusmeeskonnas
* Noorte Sotsiaaldemokraatide asepresident
* sügisest alustan ka tuutorina
Minu jaoks on oluline just see, et tudengitel oleks päriselt hea ülikoolis õppida. Peaksime tegema üliõpilastel elu kergemaks, et neil oleks parem, kergem loengutes käia, õppehoones liikuda ja õpilasesindajatega suhelda. Peame õppimist toetama, mitte takistama.
TÜÜE peaks seisma ka järgmisel aastal tasuta *kvaliteetse eestikeelse hariduse säilimise eest, kuna kõrghariduse rahastamine on senini suure küsimärgi all.
Minule on oluline tegeleda õppetöö läbiviimise küsimustega.
Ruben Tikerperi
Tervist!
Minu jaoks on kõige olulisemad kaks teemat.
Emma Maria Larm
The student council is a bridge between students and the university. It is also a good opportunity to contribute to university life. I value education, cooperation and a good working atmosphere. As a student representative, I want to stand up for the views of my fellow students and convey information. I have been actively involved in the student council of my high school for three years, giving speeches, leading ceremonies, etc. Experience has taught me that substantive preparation, communication skills, respect and a willingness to compromise are important in representation - everything else is the fruit of the aforementioned. I am grateful to my fellow students for their trust and I will do my best to make their voices heard.
The most important thing is that every student feels that their voice counts at the university. I would like to pay attention, above all, to the topic(s) that students have raised themselves. This is one of the principles of the Student Council: to ensure that university decisions take students into account at every level.
From the perspective of higher education as a whole, an important topic is its sustainable financing, in which the Student Council can also have a say. From the student perspective, some other important general topics are as follows (in random order):
1) availability of information (especially for first-year students);
2) quality of study (including study load and exam times);
3) cooperation and communication between students, lecturers and study coordinators;
4) support for students in financial difficulties;
5) awareness of students' rights;
6) equal and respectful treatment;
7) a positive and motivating atmosphere;
8) joint events (where as many as possible can participate);
9) Continued maintenance of Jakobi 2 lounge and functionality of study rooms (at least a sufficient number of chairs);
10) Availability of mental health support.
Big things start with small steps!
Above all, TÜÜE could continue the good work! Thank you, TÜÜE, for taking the feedback and opinions of students so carefully into account so far. In the next academic year, TÜÜE could continue to pay attention to, for example, the availability of information, equal treatment, students' concerns (and joys!) etc. The voices of students are being heard more and more and that's awesome, let's keep it up!
Rando Simson
I'm passionate about the university life and I like to do the things that I do well.
I'd like to help make the university buildings more enjoyable to stay in so that the students could have good spaces to spend time in.
The overusing of AI, student's motivation and well-being.
Johannes Gabriel Adams
What makes me a good student representative is my interest in helping others with their concerns. In conversations, I always try to fully understand the perspectives of others and ultimately reach a common understanding. Above all, I want to bring people together and create an equal and safe environment for all.
For me, the most important thing is for students to feel at home enough in their institute to not be scared of communicating with institute staff and fellow students. If students are not afraid to communicate, then they're also more motivated to learn, talk about their concerns and take part in events and projects. To foster such an environment, we need to promote cooperation, equal treatment and tolerance among students.
UTSU should pay more attention to communication and cooperation between institutes. This would encourage students to step out of their comfort zone, learn about other fields of study, and get acquainted with students from other institutes. The most effective way to bring students from different disciplines together would be to organize events between institutes. This would also encourage more active cooperation between UTSU student councils.
Lene Tiinas
I'm an enthusiastic and friendly person to talk to. I care about Your (!) problems and if I could, I'd solve everything that's wrong in the world. I've also already been a student representative for 2 years, so I know my way around here:D
I want to help the students and lecturers to find a common ground and understand each other, so that no student gets left alone with their problem.
On the coming year, UTSU should focus on the quality of teaching and equal treatment (as it already has), so that all students feel comfortable and safe.

As a student representative, I would put my focus on keeping communications between all sides open and informative, with the focal point being to better the environment and experience in our university.
My top priorities as a student representative will be about the discussion around mental health in an academic environment and also how to make activities in my institute (Institute of Estonian and General Linguistics) more known and accessible among our students.
I believe that UTSU should pay more attention to the mental health of our students in around the academic setting and in addition, the feedback on subjects and the technicalities regarding the registration of subjects in ÕIS II.
Agnes Tuule Nöps
I am proactive and responsible, and I enjoy talking to people – I'm always down to hear out a problem and provide solutions. I'm comfortable with all kinds of organisational tasks, since I already work as a folk-dance group instructor.
I'm most interested in working with topics such as the equal treatment of students, a more effective feedback system and an improved program.
The feedback system, standardised quality of teaching, the student canteen.
Hedi Loore Puusepp
I think I am a good student representative, because I value openness and want to create an environment, where the students are happy and the institute as well. Last year's experience as a representative helped me better understand the university structure, important topics and the overall needs of the students. I want to do even better this year!
Equal treatment is in my opinion very important, also the well-being of students in mental health and other factors. Of course also the quality of education.
I think UTSU should pay even more attention to the quality of education and the funding of higher education.
Martha Mia Veelmaa
My greatest passion is the quality of curricula. I believe study programs should be designed in a way that ensures our competence in the job market.
I also care deeply about integration and building a strong sense of community within the institute. Including actively involving international students in its activities. After all, it is the people who truly create our institute!!
I am equally concerned with issues that affect students well-being, including financial coping, mental health... and of course equal treatment.
I dream of a university that truly supports its students throughout their educational journey!!
I believe that the most critical issues at the moment are the adaptation of curricula, the funding of higher education, students well-being and equal treatment. I also think that greater attention should be given to the integration of international students. There is still so much room for improvement!
Märt Matis Hämarsoo
As a student representative it is very important to listen to and understand what problems the students actually have. I believe I would be a good pick as a student representative mainly, because I have previous experience as a student representative during my high school days, where I was the head of the charity department. I think my time in the Estonian Defence Forces as a platoon sergeant has also given me valuable experience in representing in people. As a platoon sergeant, among many other responsibilities, it was my duty to represent the soldiers in my platoon. Therefore I believe I am capable of acting as a student representative.
In my opinion the most important issues are the ones that the students themselves face. I believe it is most paramount that no problem or issue is left unnoticed. It is important that every student has the possibility to maje their voice heard. This does not mean that only issues or problems should be dealt with. Every idea to better the university should be heard and considered.
I believe that UTSU should provide students with a reliable and a comfortable way to voice their opinions. This should be provided for everybody, everywhere and whenever. It is important to actually listen and acknowledge the opinions of students. I believe it is important to also respond to the ideas proposed by the students.
Tristan Julius Jahnke
I think that my strengths as a student representative are as follows:
My main priorities as a student representative are as follows: Promote relations both within the institute and between institutes; help to make informed changes to the curriculum; increase the interest and engagement of the student body in terms of institute events and development; to promote an academic culture of discussion in and outside of the university.
I believe that the UTSU should pay more attention to intermingling of similar institutes in bachelor studies. Great academic writing and research comes from varied and diverse perspectives. The sooner that connections form, the greater the influences students can have on eachother.
Elisabeth Pae

I have been a student representative for two years, during which my main goal has been to ensure the well-being of the students in our institute. It's important for me that the voice of every student (who wishes it) is heard and that those voices are considered when making decisions concerning said students.
UTSU should continue to focus on keeping the equal treatment issues on the agenda. Only when all students and employees feel comfortable and safe working at the University of Tartu can we move on to solving milder yet still important problems.
Kirke Rumvolt
What makes me a good student representative is that I am a good listener, an active participant in student life, and I am also interested in the concerns of fellow students and improving the quality of education at the University of Tartu.
As a student representative, my top priorities include equal treatment and improving student well-being together with the quality of education.
In the next academic year, UTSU should pay more attention to equal treatment, students' wellbeing, and improving the quality of education.
Emma-Lotta Kuldmaa
Everyone that I've come to interaction with knows that I am best described by my empathy and strong sense of justice. I find it very important for students to know that they are being heard and that their thoughts are actually valued. UTSU's principle of standing up for their students is something that is completely in line with my own personal values. I also wish to contribute to an environment where all students can feel included, valued, supported and included during their journey here at University of Tartu.
For my minor I also decided to study social work, precisely because I have a genuine interest and fascination towards improving people's wellbeing and want to understand how to solve social and societal issues.
As course representative I value listening nad noticing my coursemates worries, ideas and opinions. It has become my priority that everyone feels comfortable and safe enough to confide in me. We maintain transparent and warm communication and if some worries or ideas arise, we brainstorm and work on them together.
I feel that as a member of UTSU, I would be involved in something important and close to my heart.
vaimne heaolu, samuti toimetulek õppimisteekonnal. Need on teemad, mis on minu jaoks kõige südamelähedasemad.
For me personally, the topics I would prioritize working on the most would be the equal treatment within the university environment, the mental wellbeing of the sudents as well as the support of managing life in university. These are the topics closest to my heart.
Next school year, we could put even more emphasis on matters regarding the wellbeing of our students that for example could include a possibility for students to eat at an affordable student cafeteria in the future. That would allow a large portion of students to save up on money while still bearing in mind their physical wellbeing and health. I think that some kind of solution similar to that would also support the student's quality of studies and living. I find it very positive that there has been put more emphasis on the topic of equal treatment on campus, that should most definitely continue. It would also be very positive if more students could be enlightened on support services provided by the university, because University of Tartu offers so many possibilities that are meant to support our students with their mental health and studies. It seems as if such a large portion of student still don't completely aknowledge or know about their existence and their accessibility, so it seems like there is still room for growth. I think it would support a great deal of our students to introduce and put more emphasis on these opportunities.
Henri Välling
I bring energy that inspires and creates something new and exciting. I believe that through cooperation, understanding, and a positive attitude, it's possible to overcome any challenge and even make the process enjoyable.
Students opinions matter the most to me, and I believe that I can strengthen the cooperation between students and the university through my ideas. I would bring motivation, a desire to improve, and genuine care into the student representation.
For me, students well-being and motivation to learn are the top priorities. We need to create an environment where every student feels safe and supported.
I would contribute to improving departmental structures and help make curricula more clearly organized. There will always be challenges, but by addressing them together and working as a team, we can make things even better.
Attention should definitely be paid to the use of text-generating AI tools in education. We should approach this question from a different angle, not only how to make work more interesting and flexible so that students would not even feel the urge to use such tools in their work.
I would also be a contributor to discussions on mental health. Different breathing exercises and the harmful effects of excessive phone use are topics that we should talk about more.
Mairon Koit
I am interested about life in my School (School of Theology and Religious Studies) and about life in the University of Tartu. Often I have discussed with my fellow students about which thing in our studies we like and which things we don’t like so much. I take course “Public Presentation”, in there I study how to present my thoughts better, how to write speeches and how to present those. I think those skills will be useful in the work of student representative.
For me representing fellow students thoughts is important, both those thoughts which are positive and those which lead attention to those things which are in need of change. I think one important topic is giving feedback to the curriculum and discussing how to make curriculum even better. I know funding of higher education is a difficult topic but nonetheless I find that it’s good to have more events in our School (School of Theology and Religious Studies). And why not have trip for first year students where they can visit different religious buildings/places?
We have many important and current topics. For me and for many- an important topic is funding of higher education. I think for students free higher education is something we should continue to stand for. I find it is important also in society where we can apply our knowledge and skills. One important topic is usage of text robots- many problems and questions arise. I think we should find solutions for those problems, if we hear different options and when we try to act balanced. Many questions arise also with different texts and text classes (essay, research paper etc.). I think we should explain that topic and those text differences more and maybe do some short videos which explain which is which. When I say that I know that different academic disciplines have different understandings and that is okay. Also I find that we should think more about the student canteen.

Hello, what makes me the best student representative is that I am a good communicator, and I am interested in the results that we can organize. Ready to act at any moment for you and all off our interests. Previously, I was in the student council in high school, I made school life better and easier for us all. I organized and planned many fun events.
For me, the most important thing is well-being both at university and in your day-to-day life, so that balance exists and works for you. Communication and supporting the learning environment are also important. How to stay healthy and do it successfully.
Next academic year, we could address even more student mental health, focus on burnout and finding balance. Secondly, we could address money wisdom, how to manage what you already have.
Kadi-Liis Pitk
I have been a student representative since middle school. During the 2025/26 school year, I served as the Marketing and Communications Manager for the Student Union at the Viljandi Culture Academy. I am running again because the Union provided me with a great opportunity and the experience to dive deeper into the issues that matter most to our students. I am a second-year Cultural Management student and also a class representative. I am hardworking, friendly, and at times, quite bold. Just a student who wants to make a positive impact.
I’m passionate about student well-being, mental health, and their ability to cope. I also care about the internal relationships between different departments and the reputation of the Student Union among our students. It is vital that students feel brave enough and motivated to reach out to us, knowing they can trust us completely.
Liisa Lehtla
Small, eccentric and sometimes loud. When I get an idea, it does not remain just an idea - if something needs to be done, I have already done it. I am straightforward, organised and very confident, usually with good reason. I have a vision, energy and a habit of saying things exactly as they are.
At Viljandi Culture Academy there are three buildings - the music building, the main building and the Vilma building. At the moment it feels as though the Vilma building is somewhat separate from the other two, quietly doing its own thing. People do not really know what is happening over there and how things are run, but since I study there myself, I am in a position to change that and it is about time to do so!
Clear and consistent communication - often the issue is not that something is not done, but that people are simply not aware of it. Information should be easy to find, well-timed and located in one place - less of "I heard it somewhere that..." and more clarity.
TÜÜE could place greater emphasis on building a sense of community and increasing its visibility, so that it does not feel like something only for "active" people, but rather something that the average student can relate to.

I am an empathetic and observant person who cares about improving the student experience. As a peer tutor, I have supported first-year students in adapting to university life. I have also created an English-language information channel to help international students stay informed about university activities and feel more included. I want to contribute to building a more united and supportive student community.
I aim to make peer tutoring at Viljandi Culture Academy more widespread so that new students can settle in more easily, and to strengthen the exchange student program to help international students adjust better. I stand for creating regular opportunities for students to give face-to-face feedback roundtable events with their program directors and bring more attention to mental health through inspiring events.
My goal is to improve communication between students and the student council by making it more visible, accessible, and truly representative of students’ voices. If this resonates with you, I would greatly appreciate your support!

Olen aktiivne Kultuurikorralduse tudeng ning kursusevanem. Seisan tudengite vabaaja veetmise võimaluste eest Viljandis. Samuti olen gümnaasiumis olnud õpilasesinduse President ja Aspresident.
Minu jaoks on kõige tähtsam vabaaeg ning tudengite teadlikus koolis olevate võimaluste kohta. Üliõpilasesindus peab tagama mugava keskkonna tudengitele läbi ürituste ja info levitamise.
Üliõpilasesindus peaks pöörama tähelepanu eelkõige tudengite heaolule, teavitades tudengeid erinevatest võimalustest läbi sotsiaalmeedia ning korraldades erinevaid üritusi, mis toetavad erialade põimumist.

Thank you, dear fellow students, for your past trust! Last time, you gave me an especially strong and motivating mandate and I was appointed an excellent team with whom we have done an exceptional lot this study year. In the autumn, we organised a well-being survey, and in March the complaining evening, which gave valuable input to representatives. Between these, we started the official process of making Delta's courtyard smoke-free in cooperation with the other institutes in Delta and kept tabs on the BSc computer science curriculum's development in the amount of studies in Estonian. As an experienced representative, I know how ideas become actions and which offices to coordinate them with. As a little side quest, we participated in keeping our Programming course in the computer engineering curriculum, where it was to be removed against the students' wishes. I have solved problems of multiple fellow students who have come to me directly. In the future, I will keep always being there for people: information passes through me, questions receive answers and problems receive solutions.
I'm running for student representative the fourth time. Last year, my main goals were preserving and increasing the proportion of teaching in Estonian and expanding the smoke-free area in Delta's courtyard. The latter is now about to finish. Next year, I will focus on everything study quality-related in addition to language. The ongoing big reform of curricula requires students' input on which courses to teach, in which order and how to group them into modules in tens of curricula, including four of the institute of computer science. At the same time, every course needs to be developed to be useful in its content, humane in its methods, adequate in its workload and in the mothertongue, as this will make studying more efficient. I'd like to lead these changes at the faculty level to best take care that all the curricula of natural and real sciences would stay useful and become humane.
UTSU should of course put all its heart into the reform of curricula, but the next year will also present a unique opportunity to advocate for national higher education funding: we must demand an increase in funding and the reinstatement of the achievement stipend ahead of the national elections and establish ourselves as the next government's partner to raise the students' voice up to the highest.
Miina Loore Kask
I believe I would be a good student representative because I want to make sure every student’s voice is truly heard. I think one of the most important things in a university is that students have the right to speak up about how the university, and higher education more broadly, should work. I see myself as an active student with good diplomatic and communication skills, and I would like to be involved in politics. Taking part in youth political simulations several times and graduating from the Democracy Academy have given me valuable experience that would definitely help me as a student representative.
UTSU should pay more attention next academic year to bringing together students from different fields by organizing events that are meant for students from all majors. To me, it is important that students regularly have more opportunities to communicate and connect with other students across the city. TÜÜE should also organize more sports events for all students, not only for members of the University of Tartu Academic Sports Club.
For me, the most important thing is to make students aware of their opportunities to make suggestions and raise problems. It is important to show that everyone’s opinion matters. That is why it is important to communicate the work of the student union clearly enough so that UTSU feels like a real place students can turn to for help.
Tormi Hunt
I believe that student representatives should be motivated, have a strong sense of justice and be in frequent contact with their peers in order to identify problems and solve them. That's why I am applying, as I can see that whilst there are issues, they don't get to TÜÜE who could help with them.
I see two main problems:
1) TÜÜE is fairly unknown to students, at least to first years, so better outreach should be done. (I haven't seen a single poster in Physicum)
2) Our own professors and supervisors – who should be our mentors – are making inappropriate comments and making students uncomfortable, which is NOT OKAY!
The student union can solve students' problems on a higher level than students themselves. But this can be done only if students know about the possibility of contacting their representatives. At least in FKM students oftentimes don't know about the possibility or are afraid of repercussions.
Bogdan Janakov
Hello, dear university community!
For over a year, I have worked as a project manager at the Estonian United Nations Association. During this time, I have organized inspiring events and created opportunities for civic participation, including the first Estonian-language Model UN in a long time, a scholarship for travel to New York, and an official ECOSOC youth forum’s side event. This experience has taught me how to meaningfully bring multiple perspectives into my work, manage a substantial budget, plan my time, and listen to and take others’ needs into account.
I have also worked with international partners, which has given me valuable experience in communication, negotiation, and coordinating initiatives even under challenging conditions. I believe that with these skills, I can make a strong contribution as your representative in the University of Tartu Student Union.
During this term, the issue I most want to focus on is increasing student awareness. We have a large student representative body, but voter turnout is low, and many students do not know well enough what their rights are or how to voice their concerns and proposals. My goal is for the student union to be a visible and accessible platform that students can turn to at any time with their suggestions and problems, and where these issues are addressed openly and substantively in cooperation with lecturers, programme directors, and students.
I also consider it very important that the student union serve as a support platform for youth initiatives. I want students to receive support from the union in developing their ideas and carrying out projects. In addition, I want to stand up for international students so that they feel included in university life, which is why I consider it important to have more joint events and activities, including in English.
The main focus must be on communication. It is necessary to show that the student union is an open community for everyone and not something distant from students. To achieve this, it is important to hold regular meetings and discussions with students to talk about the issues and concerns that matter to them. After events and meetings, feedback could be collected and passed on to the head of the relevant institute or field. It is just as important to provide clear public follow-up on how these issues will be taken forward.
To support this, the student council’s Twitter account should be revived and used to keep students regularly informed. At the same time, the student union should also be active on other channels in order to reach a wide range of students. For example, institute representatives and council members could do Instagram takeovers and share their work and ongoing issues so that it is visible that students’ interests are genuinely being represented.
Bethriin Pilv
I would be a good student representative because I sincerely want to help by making the university better, in addition to that I have a big will to help fellow students. Above all I value justice and honesty. I also dare to speak out on topics that are important, when most people often choose to remain silent.
We all came to the university because something that lit a spark in us, it is important that teaching wouldn’t douse it instead of letting it grow. Therefore I think that the quality of teaching should be something to focus on.
In my opinion UTSU should pay more attention to the content and quality of compulsory subjects in the next academic year, as well as they are consistent with the feedback provided by students.
Kadri Paan
I am a good listener who genuinely cares about representing different student perspectives, not just my own. I communicate clearly, stay organized, and follow through on issues until there is a result. I’m also approachable, so students feel comfortable sharing their concerns with me.
My main priorities would be improving communication between students and the university, ensuring that student feedback leads to real changes, and supporting student wellbeing. I would focus on identifying recurring issues and working towards practical, long-term solutions.
UTSU should focus more on the transparency and clarity of academic processes, such as grading, feedback, and thesis guidelines. Clear expectations and consistent communication would reduce stress and help students perform better. Additionally, more guidance on the use of AI tools in studies would be valuable.
Maare Karmen Oras
I am an open and generally cheerful person. I tend to talk to everyone like we're friends already and I am happy to listen to any and all problems you may have. Like many computer scientists, I bring an annoying engineer mindset to every discussion and want to create functioning solutions to issues immediately. I have been told before that I speak too clearly. I have also been a competitive debater for almost 8 years now and I have no lack of courage in getting any thoughts or problems heard at the right places.
The voices of all students should be heard at the university, even the ones of students less represented in the student body. Students of all backgrounds should feel safe and happy studying here.
The university should be preparing to admit more students in the coming years when the number of high school graduates will be rising. At the same time, we need to maintain the high standard of teaching and the wide array of courses Tartu is known for, so each student can study the right curriculum for them.

I believe that I would be a good students representative because I care about people's well being and I am openly communicative about issues, and I want to contribute to making the university environment better and more supportive for students. I also know that there are not many people willing to represent the science and technology study programme. I would like to take that responsibility and make sure our students visions and opinions are represented as well.
My top priority is to help students stay motivated to learn and to make sure they feel seen, valued and good about themselves in universities enviroment. For me, being a student representative is not only about problem solving, but also about helping create an environment where students can feel confident and grow.
I believe that UTSU should pay more attention in the next academic year to the study experience and overall quality of students lives for international students. From speaking with the current Bioengineering student representative, I understand that this is an area where improvement is till needed. I also believe that stronger collaboration between different institutes would help more connected and consistent experience for students.
Nargiz Mammadzada
I deeply care about how students of University of Tartu feel within academic environment and community. I believe that the hard work towards creating an environment where students feel supported, heard and motivated leads to a better academic performance and overall wellbeing. Additionally, I am proactive, responsible and not afraid to speak up for the students of University of Tartu. I have experience of being International Student Ambassador of UT, as well as being board member of Young European Ambassadors network. Those experiences gave me knowledge and practical proficiency in encountering situations which require efficient and goal-oriented performance.
My top priorities are ensuring that each of the student voices are heard, considered and validated. I want to ensure that students of the University of Tartu are able to openly communicate withe their faculties and address all the issues and suggestions, knowing that they will be listened to and appreciated. Additionally, I want to push for tangible improvements in academic experiences such as inclusivity and overall wellbeing of all the student members of University of Tartu.
I believe that in the upcoming academic year UTSU should pay more attention to promoting easier access to the information about internships and career enhancement opportunities for student of different faculties, as this is the topic where I believe majority of students have faced difficulties with. Additionally, I would like to improve feedback channels for the courses, so that students could track their suggestions and receive more practical outcome of their feedbacks.
Riad Taghiyev
I am a responsible, open-minded, and communicative person who listens carefully to different perspectives and works towards balanced solutions. I have experience in customer service and event organization, which has taught me to react quickly and collaborate effectively in a team. In addition, I am part of the university as an international student ambassador, so I am familiar with the university system and know how to work with students from diverse backgrounds. I am also a peer support student (peer tutor), which has strengthened my ability to support and guide others. I am motivated to represent students’ interests and contribute to creating a more supportive and inclusive study environment.
My top priorities are to represent students’ voices and make their concerns visible. I want to improve communication between students and the university so that information is clear and timely. I strongly value creating an equal environment for both international and Estonian students, as well as ensuring that all students are aware of their rights. I also aim to contribute to building a supportive and inclusive study environment.
I believe UTSU should pay more attention to students’ mental well-being and the balance of study workload in the next academic year. It is also important to ensure equal opportunities for both international and Estonian students and to improve students’ awareness of their rights. In addition, more effort should be made to ensure clear, accessible communication between the university and students.

I will represent the interests of doctoral students on the Institute of Chemistry's council.
It is important to strengthen doctoral students' voices in decision-making processes and to improve communication between students and the institute.
Quality of teaching and higher education funding.
Bianka Põldroos
I'm active in the Chemistry Students' Association, where I'm the leader of the social events (with other associations) group. I mainly focus on organizing events, but I also contribute to the general activities of the association. I've gotten many valuable experiences from the association, that would be helpful at UTSU. I'm also in the chemistry masters program council, which means I already have the roll of representing students' interests, but I wish to fulfill that role more actively.
As a student representative my top priority would be students' mental health and avoiding burnout. For that i wish to bring UTSU closer to the students by more direct communication and promotions. I think that the best way to deal with students' problems is by talking to them directly to hear their opinions about curricula and subjects and come up with potential solutions, that they think could help. I also wish to work with the Counselling Centre to make students more aware of the services they provide.
I think that next year UTSU should focus more on integrating Estoninan and international students. Often times we see eachother everyday and study similar subjects, but don't actually converse. This could be achieved with both academic and unacademic events.
Madli Maran
I believe I would be a good fit as a student representative because I am an active communicator and want to advocate for students’ well-being by informing the institute about their concerns and positive experiences, and by working together to find solutions to problems. Previously, I have contributed to student life through my involvement in a student organization—I have helped organize various events and, during the concluding academic year, worked as the financial manager of TÜKS (University of Tartu Chemistry Students’ Association).
As a student representative, my priorities would be to ensure the continued strong collaboration between the institute and students (including student organizations), to represent students’ interests in matters related to academic studies, and to increase the visibility of the chemistry field.
In the next academic year, TÜÜE could place greater emphasis on the smart use of artificial intelligence in education and on promoting interaction between students from different fields of study.

I have prior experience in student representation, having been involved in the student council in high school and currently serving as a course representative at university. Representing fellow students is therefore both familiar and meaningful to me. I care deeply about ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard and considered in decision-making. I am a strong communicator, responsible, and enthusiastic, which enables me to understand diverse perspectives and represent them effectively.
For me, the most important priority is to ensure that students have a high-quality and supportive learning experience. This includes improving the organization of studies as well as ensuring clear and effective communication between students and faculty. I also consider student well-being essential, making sure that the workload is reasonable and that sufficient support is available when needed.
I believe UTSU should place more focus on student mental well-being and workload balance in the coming academic year. Increasingly, students are experiencing stress and the risk of burnout, so it is important that both the organization of studies and support systems take this into account. Additionally, more attention should be given to ensuring that student feedback consistently reaches decision-makers and leads to meaningful changes.
Railin Viik
It is important to me that the opinions of students are heard at the institute and university level. I have previous experience in the student council as I have been a member before, and I am also an active member of my student association. I am not afraid to express my opinion and stand up for it. It is important for me to gain new experiences, evolve and use my skills and knowledge to enable others around me to do the same. I adapt quickly to new situations and can find solutions to any problems that arise.
For me, it is important that the teaching and learning environment is supportive and stimulating and that students’ opinions and thoughts are heard. I think it is important for students to have someone who listens to them and supports them in dealing with and solving problems. I am open to listening and support. Students may come to me with any question, and I am confident that I can find a solution.
As someone who has been involved with UTSU for some time now, I think it still has a problem with visibility among students. I see that many students are still not exactly aware of what UTSU is about, what problems we address and how the student union can help them find solutions. It is important to make ourselves more visible to students, because that way UTSU can improve students' university experience and support them during their studies.

I believe I am a strong candidate because I am goal-oriented and conscientious, with a genuine motivation to contribute. My previous experience includes serving as a working group lead for Bioteaduste Üliõpilaste Selts (BÜS) and as a member of the program council for the Genetic Engineering curriculum. I am confident that I would be a valuable asset to the team.
As a student representative of the institute, I would contribute to the improvement of the curricula. For example, in the field of genetic engineering, a common issue is that some students use the program as a 'placeholder' and transfer elsewhere the following academic year. I believe steps can be taken to address this and improve student retention.
One of the topics that, in my view, should be addressed even more is artificial intelligence and its use in education. In my opinion, there are several shortcomings in the current regulations.
Anet Ilustrumm
I believe that my previous experience makes me a strong student representative. I have served as a student representative at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics for three years and have also been a representative of the Faculty of Science and Technology for one year. In addition, I currently serve as the Vice-president of the Student Union of the University of Tartu, where I primarily focus on issues related to the quality of education. During this time, I have significantly developed the courage and confidence to speak up and represent students’ perspectives in various councils and committees. This is an important skill, as a student representative may sometimes feel intimidated when needing to step into discussions led by professors and lecturers, or even argue with them on important matters. Additionally, since I have represented students on multiple levels, I am very familiar with the university’s structure. This allows me to make informed decisions and reach out to the right people in order to solve students’ problems.
For me, the most important area to focus on is issues related to the quality of education. Currently, the University of Tartu is undergoing a comprehensive curriculum reform, during which all study programmes are being reviewed in terms of their content and development opportunities. This also includes the curricula of the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics. I have been actively involved in this process as a student representative and consider it important to involve other students in these discussions in order to represent a broader student perspective.
In my opinion, the UTSU should place more systematic focus on issues related to the quality of education in the coming academic year. In addition, more attention should be given to the visibility of the Student Union. Unfortunately, there are many students at the University of Tartu who are not aware of the existence of the Student Union or do not know about its achievements. Therefore, more effort should be put into reaching students.
Eliisabet Pelešev
As a mathematics student, I am used to solving complex problems and do not give up until things are clear - I want to bring that same persistence to my work as a representative. I believe a good representative does not speak only from their own experience, but also brings their fellow students' concerns to the table.
What matters most to me is that the workload is distributed reasonably and that the learning environment supports genuine understanding - not just getting through courses. I also think it's important that student feedback actually reaches the lecturers.
Teaching quality is something that affects all students on a daily basis. I think UTSU could pay more attention to how the feedback process works in practice - whether students even know where to turn with their concerns, and whether their feedback leads to real change.
Merit Vinkel
Since I have served as a student representative in the past, I know exactly what to expect and how to clearly convey my ideas. I also have been an active student during my time at the university and interacted with many different fellow students in various ways; this has given me a good understanding of students’ concerns and joys, thanks to which I can pinpoint the bottlenecks at our institute and better propose solutions.
As a student representative, I would try to focus more on making university life a bit more student-friendly. I would like to revisit issues such as spreading out tests or confirming exam dates earlier. At the same time, I believe it is important to take into account feedback to the teaching faculty and the subjects themselves during the preparation of subjects.
As the students’ advocate, UTSU could pay more attention to direct feedback from students, for example through surveys. Students often experience the university very differently, and what is a challenge for one student may be a source of enjoyment for another, making it difficult to assess on an individual basis what truly needs the most attention.

I am a confident and courageous communicator, and I am ready to speak up on behalf of those students who may not feel able to do so themselves. Often, I find myself standing up for others even more than I do for myself.
I care deeply about the mental well-being of my fellow students. In addition, equal treatment of people in all aspects is very important to me.
TÜÜE should pay more attention to ensuring equal treatment, especially regarding people’s background and native language. Unfortunately, I have already witnessed instances of unfair treatment, and I believe this is an area that deserves greater focus in the future.
Tormi Kalle
I believe my broad network of contacts and activities make me a good student representative, it is helpful when addressing various questions and problems. I have also been a student representative for two years already, which has given me valuable knowledge and experience about the student union and its work.
I want to improve the awareness of the different opportunities available in the University of Tartu's buildings. My wish would be to create a digital map for a student studying at the University of Tartu, showing student rooms, affordable places to eat and etc;). I also find it important to encourage students to share their concerns and joys with UTSU on various topics, such as the structure of curriculum or student life.
UTSU should pay more attention to ensure safer traffic corridors between university buildings for both pedestrians and cyclists.
Joonatan Jürisson
To me it is very important to be both a voice and a representative to those, who don't want to or are too afraid to express their own voice - a democratic student union should entail a bigger focus on the representation of those, whose voices get muffled by others. In everything I do I always work towards compromises and that everyone is taken into account. I've been a part of student unions most of my education and thus know that I can represent students properly in the future as well.
I want the university now and in the future to be a place where people come to gain knowledge, not show others what they already know - classes should base their grading on what is being taught in them and everyone should be treated equally when doing so. I want to raise students knowledge and skill of using artificial intelligence so that it would be applied sensibly in the university in a way where it doesn't steal from people nor hold them back. Lastly I want to strengthen communication with students so that all necessary information would be known to them or accessible from a central place without having to search through webpages.
The UTSU should pay more attention towards getting businesses interested in providing students internships. In addition, the use of language models in both studying and teaching should be further monitored and when necessary, recommendations on adjusting how they are used should be made.
Martin Valvas
I am Martin Valvas, a Bachelor's student in Computer Engineering. I am an active young individual with experience serving on the boards of two different student organizations.
During this academic year, I have created and am currently teaching a new course at the Institute of Technology focused on unmanned vehicles.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time in nature. For those interested I organize hiking trips in various locations across Southern Estonia. I am passionate about technology, and in nature I apply the knowledge I have gained from a zoology club. On a daily basis, I work with drones and computer systems.
My experiences so far have provided me with both knowledge and practical skills in the fields of leadership and teaching.
During my studies, I have noticed that many courses tend to focus more on theoretical learning. In contrast, I have designed my own course using a hands-on approach first, followed by theory and the necessary foundational knowledge.
I would like to contribute primarily to improving the quality of education and to offer solutions for achieving a better balance between theory and practice, ensuring that both the workload and course content support students’ development.
I believe we should place greater emphasis on evaluating course workload and ensuring an appropriate level of practical learning.
It is important to find a balance where the studies are sufficiently comprehensive while still being manageable and supportive of students’ development.
Mihkel Ottis
I am confident and not afraid to argue with lecturers. I dare to stand up for the values of students.
Student school life, because it is not normal for students to have to study full-time and also work full-time, study loads and ECTS volumes need to be reviewed ;)
Financing higher education. Students shouldn't have to worry so much about money to meet basic survival needs.
Alicja Ainsoo
I have previously participated in MESA events aimed at simulating the work of various political institutes. In April I will represent Estonia in the Model European Parliament (MEP) in Bulgaria. In addition, I lead the Student Satellite events team, which has given me strong organizational and coordination experience. I believe that my previous experience in negotiating and planning projects will help me to protect the interests of students firmly.
My primary goal is to bridge the gap between academic studies and the private sector. I aim to advocate for a curriculum that involves more guest lecturers from industry professionals and offers students real-world case studies to solve. My experience with the Student Satellite project has shown me how vital it is to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. I want to ensure that meaningful networking and collaboration with potential employers are integrated into the student journey from day one, rather than only after graduation.
I believe UTSU should focus on the course feedback system. Currently, providing feedback often feels like a mere formality, with student concerns frequently going unaddressed. My goal is to ensure that feedback becomes more than just statistics—lecturers should have both the obligation and the incentive to implement actual improvements based on student input and clearly communicate those changes back to the students.
Alexandra Lehtmets
What makes me a good student representative is my experience in academic work and my active involvement in the academic community. I am used to collaborating with diverse groups of people, listening to their concerns, and working towards balanced solutions. I value open communication, transparency, and ensuring that students’ voices are genuinely heard. I am also motivated to support both local and international students.
My top priority as a student representative is student mental health. I want to contribute to ensuring a reasonable study workload, accessible support systems (such as counselling), and open, stigma-free discussions around mental health. I also find it important that student feedback is genuinely taken into account and that the study environment is supportive and flexible.
I believe UTSU should focus more on the quality of teaching and transparency in the next academic year. It is important that student feedback leads to real changes and that course structure, assessment criteria, and expectations are clearly and consistently communicated. I also see a need for clearer guidelines on the use of AI tools in studies to avoid confusion and unequal treatment.
Zoe Rhiannon Jones
I'm approachable, friendly and organised.
Making sure students' voices are heard and communication between students and the university is clear.
Guidelines for theses and course participation.
I have extensive experience in student organizations. In primary school, I was an active member of the student council for five years, serving also as a minute taker. In high school, I worked as the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper for three years, and at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, I participated in a mental health working group. In addition, I have led a team as a shift supervisor at LPP Estonia OÜ. Currently I am undergoing tutor training and taking part in a student shadowing program.
This list reflects not only my experiences but also who I am as a person. I am organized, precise and attentive to detail. I care about health and well-being and I enjoy creating and being involved in the process. I value teamwork, meeting new people and contributing to my community, school, work and the projects I am part of.
One of my strengths and at times also a challenge is that I never approach things superficially and am constantly striving to grow and stay active. I am demanding of both myself and others, while always remaining respectful and balanced. I expect from others the same level of commitment and contribution that I bring myself and I believe I can find this in the University of Tartu Student Council.
I value student community, health, and well-being as well as advocating for students interests. Everything related to academic development, quality of teaching, mental health and the overall learning experience is close to my heart as these aspects affect me the most as a student.
One topic that certainly deserves attention is the lack of comfortable seating and relaxation areas outside classrooms at the Institute of Education. This limits students willingness to truly step out during breaks, relax, and spend time comfortably and it restricts spaces where students can study peacefully after classes and feel well.
As I mentioned earlier, I am not fully aware of how satisfied students in other institutes are with the facilities in their buildings, but at my own institute, I consider this an important issue. I also see certain challenges in the use of artificial intelligence. Many students rely on AI tools because they provide a quick and convenient solution, yet they often do not fully appreciate the value of independent writing and creative thinking. This issue is particularly evident in the social sciences, where discussion and critical thinking are essential, but deeper reflection in the classroom is often lacking. Therefore, it would be valuable to organize training sessions or workshops on the use of artificial intelligence that highlight what students may lose through its use – creativity, independent thinking, and personal engagement – and provide exercises that allow students to see their own potential for creativity and writing, rather than focusing solely on the benefits of AI, which are currently a timely and relevant topic.
Roman Zolotarjov
I do believe that practical experience that I have gained during my work in the Institute Student Council, as well as the Social Sciences Faculty Council is what makes me a good candidate. Being dedicated to my work in different administrative bodies gave me invaluable knowledge about how to defend Students' rights and interests in the best possible way. A lot has been achieved; representative's scholarship, faculty-wide events and study reform which started last year are by far the most spectacular examples.
First and foremost, I would like to deal with the question of Estonian state policy regarding higher education. Financial support of higher education, students' wellbeing, scholarships, affordability and general accessibility of higher education remain unresolved question and their importance is increasing in the context of upcoming parliamentary elections in 2027. Reform of study programs also needs further attention, as well as the topics of mental health and equal treatment.
UTSU should pay more attention to such important topics as higher education policy, affordability of higher education, quality of teaching and students' wellbeing, both material and mental.
Marika Adson
Throughout my studies, I have sought out ways to contribute to improving student life. This has led me to take on leadership roles in student organizations and, this academic year, to actively contribute to the faculty student council. My first year in the student union gave me valuable insight into university decision-making processes and highlighted the importance of student representation. I aim to build on this experience and represent students’ interests even more consciously, purposefully, and effectively.
My experience as a student representative has shown me how important it is to approach student well-being as a whole, as many key issues are closely interconnected. As master’s student in psychology, mental health is especially important to me, but it cannot be addressed in isolation. It is strongly influenced by factors such as the quality of education and how students are treated within their institutes. When students lack sufficient resources or a supportive environment, it directly affects their learning experience and well-being at university.
Although UTSU with the communication and marketing team has already done an amazing job in improving the visibility of the student union this year, I believe communication should remain a key priority next year. If students are not aware of their rights, opportunities, and duties, a significant part of the work done by the student union may go unnoticed. As the student union exists for students, its activities must be accessible and clearly communicated to them.
2) Oskused. Minu eriala õpetab mulle igapäevaselt, kuidas tegutseda üksikisikute ja ühiskonna heaolu edendamise nimel. Omandatu tuleb tudengite esindamisel igati kasuks.
3) Omadused. Olen valmis panustama, valmis pühenduma ja valmis asju ellu viima, tehes seda kõike suure vastutustundega.
Mis on üliõpilasesindaja peamine ülesanne? Vastus on lihtne: seista tudengite heaolu eest ja kaitsta nende õigusi. Just see on minu jaoks ka kõige olulisem.
Kert Kristjan Viira
I am an active social sciences student and have participated in the work of several organizations during my studies and have spent a semester abroad with Erasmus. I am applying to the Student Union because I want to contribute to representing and protecting the interests of students at the University of Tartu.
As a student representative, I would advocate for students to maintain free higher education, improve their financial situation, and have a good university experience.
1. Students should have guaranteed health insurance during academic leave. If a student decides to go on leave, they should not have to look for a job because their health insurance has ended.
2. There should be affordable student canteens in the city of Tartu.
3. Students should maintain free higher education, because every student should have the opportunity to acquire higher education regardless of their financial ability.
4. I would advocate for students to be guaranteed equal treatment at the University of Tartu.
Next year, the Student Union of Tartu University should continue to focus on equal treatment, free higher education, and the economic well-being of students.
Kirti Lii Kask
Minust teeb hea üliõpilasesindaja minu tugev soov asju pareWhat makes me a strong student representative is my drive to improve things. I don’t ignore problems – I look for solutions and take action. I am highly approachable and able to build connections quickly, even with people I’ve just met, which helps me understand students’ concerns and represent them clearly. I am known for my positive mindset, high energy, and persistence. When I commit to something, I follow it through. I strongly believe that every problem has a solution if someone is willing to take responsibility. Coming from a rural background, I value community, sustainability, and an active lifestyle – values I also bring into my role as a student representative. For the past academic year I’ve been serving as a student representative in the Pedagogicum council. I have also helped organize and host events within the institute, bringing students and staff closer together. In addition, I have represented the University of Tartu, the Institute of Education, and my study programme in schools, conferences, and fairs, sharing my experience and motivating others.
I want to focus on strengthening the communication network between students so that problems and concerns can move bottom-up more quickly and do not go unnoticed. At the moment, it is possible that we “live in the same house” within our institute, experience similar challenges, yet remain unaware of each other’s situations, while at the same time our “neighbor” might already have a solution. A more effective communication network helps build stronger connections both among students and between students and UTSU. It means greater visibility, more sharing, and less of a feeling that students have to manage everything on their own. I consider supporting student well-being and mental health extremely important. I hope to help evolve an environment where there are more opportunities to communicate, share experiences, and find support.
The growing use of AI-based text tools among students may, in some cases, limit their independent development. As a result, there is a risk of developing a generation of specialists whose knowledge and skills lack sufficient depth. To address this, I believe that in the coming academic year, UTSU should actively raise awareness of this issue and highlight the need to update teaching methods and, where necessary, adapt thesis guidelines to better reflect the changing learning environment and students’ needs. In addition, equal treatment is a value that is very important to me. I am pleased that it has received increased attention during the current academic year, and I hope this focus will continue and strengthen in the future.
Pirjo Mõttus
What makes me a good representative is the same trait that makes me a not-such-a-good one: I am passionate about anything I consider important enough to engage with. Because of this, challenges and setbacks do not discourage me because obstacles are there to be overcome. I support good ideas, while also expressing my own opinions without hesitation. I try to do this diplomatically but at times my intensity shows and I may come across as too direct or strong. However, this always comes from a genuine desire to discuss alternatives and find the best possible direction or solution.
As a representative of doctoral students, I would primarily focus on the issues that are most pressing at our level of study. Workload, both academic and professional, is certainly one of the key topics that requires ongoing attention. I also consider the well-being of doctoral students to be important, which calls for an understanding and transparent system that supports their development and respects them as equal and valuable contributors to the academic life of the institute. As a representative, my door would always be open to fellow students’ views on important matters, because what matters to me may not be equally significant to everyone, and likewise, some important concerns may go unnoticed by me. Therefore, I value a dialogical approach, through which I would bring to the institute council those issues that represent the interests of as many doctoral students as possible.
One important topic is undoubtedly artificial intelligence. Both in society at large and within the university, AI is often viewed as a tool that can be adopted, restricted or set aside. This discourse is not wrong per se but it also calls for an alternative, a more holistic approach, one that sees AI as an infrastructure that was shaping our choices and decisions long before the widespread emergence of large language models. Awareness of how AI, through our current choices, is also shaping the futures, both the education future and the direction our society will take, is one of the most critical emerging issues that UTSU should take to heart.

I am a good candidate for the student council because I approach new challenges with full commitment. Since childhood, I have enjoyed taking on responsible roles within groups, and I consider my sense of duty to be my greatest strength. With a proactive mindset and a desire to improve university life, I am ready to represent the views of the undergraduate students of the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies in the University of Tartu Student Union.
The issue I care about most is alleviating students' career anxiety. Studying a broad field often leads to discussions, both within and outside the institute, about the intense competition for professional positions. As a student representative, I would advocate for involving Johan Skytte Institute alumni in the curriculum—for example, through guest lectures—and promoting the organization of career days. My goal is to provide students with a better understanding of professional career paths so that everyone can find a direction that truly motivates them.
In the coming academic year, I believe the University of Tartu Student Union should place greater emphasis on the importance of course feedback. Only through student input can the university create a higher-quality curriculum that reflects the interests and suggestions of the learners. Continued organization of 'World Cafés' and a stronger focus on course feedback will help ensure that the learning experience remains modern and student-oriented.

I am an active student for whom it is important that students’ voices are taken into account in decision-making. Even though speaking up can be intimidating, I believe that students are an essential part of the university and that their interests must be represented. I am also currently a marketing specialist at UTSU, which means I have already gained various knowledge and skills that will definitely help me in representing others.
Momoko Cerveira
I believe a good student representative listens to students and brings their concerns forward in a clear and constructive way. I would focus on understanding different perspectives, communicating openly, and working together with staff to find practical solutions. I am reliable and willing to learn, and I want to contribute to improving the quality of learning and the overall student experience.
My top priorities as a student representative are improving the quality of learning, supporting student mental health, and ensuring equal treatment for all students. I also want to make sure students are well informed about their rights, opportunities, and responsibilities, so they can make the most of their studies. I aim to represent student concerns clearly and help create a supportive and fair study environment.
I think UTSU should pay more attention to student mental health and clear communication. Many students experience stress and uncertainty during their studies, so it is important to ensure that support systems are accessible and well communicated. In addition, improving how information about student rights and responsibilities is shared would help students feel more informed and confident.
Rasmus Koppel
I have been at the university for over three years and have also been involved in the work of several student organizations during that time. Because of this, I believe I have a good understanding of what truly resonates with students and what does not. For me, it is important that university provides skills that are actually useful in the job market. I believe this requires meaningful collaboration between students, the university, and employers.
For me, the most important priority is ensuring that studies are meaningful and genuinely support students’ development. This includes the thoughtful use of AI as well as the broader development of future skills.
In addition, I want to contribute to strengthening the connection between the university and the job market, so that students have more internship and job opportunities and what they learn does not remain purely theoretical.
More attention should be given to the meaningful integration of AI into studies. This is not only about using tools, but also understanding how they affect learning and future skills. Closely related to this is the broader development of future skills, including critical thinking and digital competence.
In addition, as higher education is gradually moving towards more paid models, UTSU should proactively address this topic by ensuring that students’ interests are protected and that they are supported and well-informed in case of such changes.
Anita Kvitenko
I am an active and creative person with strong organizational skills. I have extensive experience in organizing, planning, and developing various projects and events. I work well in a team, listen to others’ opinions, and find solutions that take into account the interests of the majority. In addition, I approach tasks responsibly and always follow through, which helps me effectively represent and protect students’ interests.
For me, the most important aspects are a comfortable learning environment, opportunities for students’ self-development, and open communication between students and the school administration. I believe it is important that everyone has the opportunity to be heard and to influence school life. I also value organizing engaging and unifying events that make the university environment more lively and supportive.
Elizaveta Sirkunen
Malika Baikova
What makes me a good student representative is my active mindset, previous experience, and strong motivation to contribute to the community.
I study at Narva College in the programme Languages and Multilingualism in School (currently I am completing my Estonian language year). I moved to Estonia in November 2024, and since then I have been actively involved in social and community activities. I am a member of the Kohtla-Järve Youth Council, where I have helped organize various youth events and projects.
I also have previous experience as a deputy chair of a student council and have participated in Olympiads, conferences, and volunteer work, including international events. In addition, I have a degree in primary school education and have completed a support person (tugiisik) course in Estonia, which has given me valuable skills in supporting young people.
I am particularly interested in working with youth and organizing events. I believe it is important to create an open and inclusive environment where every student feels welcome and heard.
As a student representative, my main priorities are three things: clear and effective communication with students, implementing student ideas through teamwork, and creating an open and international student environment.
First, I want communication between students and the student council to be regular and transparent. This means having simple ways to collect ideas (such as surveys, feedback forms, and meetings) and making sure students receive clear feedback on which ideas are taken forward and why.
Second, I see real implementation of student ideas as a priority. The student council works as a team, and my goal is to contribute to making sure that good ideas do not stay just ideas. This includes discussing ideas together, assigning responsibilities, and organizing events and initiatives in practice. My previous experience in project and event management supports this approach.
Third, I strongly value an open and international environment. As an international student, I want to contribute to ensuring that all students - regardless of their background or language level - feel included. This requires more events that create opportunities for communication, collaboration, and personal development.
I believe UTSU should focus more on student engagement and building a stronger sense of community.
It is important to create more opportunities for students from different backgrounds to meet and collaborate, especially in Narva College.
More support for first-year students, especially those learning Estonian, would also be very valuable.
A strong community creates a better learning environment for everyone.
August Kukk
I am applying because I genuinely care about the well-being of my fellow students and the entire faculty. I consider myself a good listener and a people-oriented person, which is why I believe I am well suited to represent students’ interests. As a representative, I find it essential to have the courage to address topics or issues that have so far been quietly overlooked. I have actively contributed to enriching the lives of law students both as a member of the Estonian Law Students’ Union and previously as a tutor, and I intend to continue with the same dedication in the role of a student representative.
A strong emphasis is placed on ensuring that changes to the law curriculum are aligned with students’ interests - I will stand for the principle that financial savings must not come at the expense of essential courses or their quality.
I will also work to ensure that the facilities offered in our academic buildings are up to standard. In particular, this means improving the currently modest common areas and creating a more comfortable overall atmosphere. In light of recent renovation works, it is also important to ensure that both in Tartu and Tallinn, teaching takes place in suitable and functional spaces.
In any case, I will listen to and address all other ongoing concerns that reach me through you.
The priority of TÜÜE must be the funding of higher education and the improvement of study quality. This includes taking decisive steps toward restoring the performance-based scholarship and maintaining free education. In addition, student feedback in shaping the learning process must be taken seriously so that it leads to real change.
Emma Priisaar
Minu hinnangul peaks TÜÜE järgmisel õppeaastal pöörama senisest veelgi suuremat tähelepanu kõrghariduse rahastamisele, sest see mõjutab otseselt tudengite toimetulekut, õppimisvõimalusi ja motivatsiooni.

I believe that I am well-suited for the role of student representative because I am particular and straightforward, which helps me be a systematic messenger of all the wishes and concerns of the students. I do not back down from responsibility, always show initiative, and think that the road to change will always require honesty - we have to judge problems at face value and tackle their root causes. I am inquisitive by nature and very solution-oriented, with the belief that the best way to learn and grow is through trial and error. Consistency and determination spark the will in me to contribute in a way that is beneficial for all.
I have had the experience of directly “representing students” in middle school, high school, and university. These experiences gave me an opportunity to see the "behind-the-scenes" of many educational institutions and have raised an interest and an open mind regarding the development of school life.
As student representative I want to encourage fellow students to voice their opinion, be the amplifier of other students' voices and be the one who stands for the rights of students.
Successful psychology students are very valuable to our society, but there isn't much done to support their well-being. Many psychology students experience burnout before graduation and never make it into the professional field. That is why my top priority is the well-being of students. I want every student of the university to have equal opportunities for self-realisation and similar charms in their institutes. Everyone should feel good in their academic environment to stay motivated and enjoy the new challenges that come along during their studies.
In my eyes, striving for perfection is not the goal. In today's ever-changing world, difficult situations will always arise. That is why I value consistent development and ingenuity - we have to solve current issues, recognize both systemic and personal mistakes, learn from them, and continue to evolve.
To me, the topics requiring the most attention are the quality and efficiency of programs and creating a nourishing study environment. Currently, when looking at the environment and opportunities available to students, it seems that some institutes have better opportunities to serve the well-being of both students and professors. I would like to help create a reality where every institute receives the necessary upgrades and equal opportunities. I also find it important to reevaluate and improve the efficiency of studies - which classes are more effective strictly online and which ones need to be held in person; do all courses align with their given EAP value and the actual workload they demand, etc. I would also like to help create a support system so more students would be inspired to create more interdisciplinary research projects, which would also improve the cooperation between institutes and bring a stronger sense of unity across the university.

Mia Britt Williams
I am motivated and determined to genuinely contribute to improving both the quality of education and student well-being. What makes me a good student representative is that I genuinely care about people – I believe that university should be a place where individuals can fully realise themselves, grow, and develop in a safe and supportive environment. I am a good listener who can identify important issues, but I am also confident in expressing my views and standing up for students’ interests. I approach challenges with a solution-oriented mindset and am ready to take responsibility and initiative to turn ideas into real change. To me, being a good student representative means ensuring that students’ voices are not only heard, but also lead to concrete action.
My main priorities as a student representative are improving the quality of education and supporting students’ mental well-being. I want to contribute to making studies more clear, practical, and well-organised, while ensuring that students feel safe and included throughout their academic journey.
I also consider it important to promote equal treatment and increase students’ awareness of their rights and opportunities, so that all University of Tartu students have a supportive and fair environment.
I believe UTSU should focus more on improving and standardising the quality of education in the next academic year. Students’ experiences can vary greatly depending on the course or lecturer, so clearer expectations, better feedback systems, and more transparent organisation of studies are needed.
It is also important to address the use of artificial intelligence in studies by providing clear guidelines for both students and lecturers, ensuring that it supports learning while maintaining academic integrity.
Iko Marten Kiisler
For me, issues related to equal treatment are the most important. I would like to continue my work in the equal treatment working group. In addition, as the University of Tartu has recently hired (or maybe is still in the process of hiring) an Equality Officer, I would like to see how their work develops and, if possible, support them in this role.
I believe that TÜÜE cannot avoid addressing the issue of study quality. As this is a university, its primary mission is to provide high-quality education. Therefore, it is essential that UTSU continues its efforts to improve the quality of studies.
2) Oskused. Minu eriala õpetab mulle igapäevaselt, kuidas tegutseda üksikisikute ja ühiskonna heaolu edendamise nimel. Omandatu tuleb tudengite esindamisel igati kasuks.
3) Omadused. Olen valmis panustama, valmis pühenduma ja valmis asju ellu viima, tehes seda kõike suure vastutustundega.
Mis on üliõpilasesindaja peamine ülesanne? Vastus on lihtne: seista tudengite heaolu eest ja kaitsta nende õigusi. Just see on minu jaoks ka kõige olulisem.

My decision to apply to be a student representative has been influenced by my previous experience as a representative of an international association (EPSA) in TUPS. This position has helped me improve my communication, advocacy and time management skills, and has made me realise the significance of representatives on different levels. I believe that I can apply these skills in order to support both the study experience and wellbeing of medical faculty students.
It is important to strive for competence and assure smooth running of FMSC. My goal is to assure students that their concerns are heard, particularly those related to equal treatment. In my opinion, prevention work is very important, and that’s why I want to focus on the successful implementation of the faculty's good practice, improved equal treatment guide and other new undertakings.
Equal treatment and feedback are, in my opinion, closely intertwined. I believe that the SIS and other ways of providing feedback need to be reviewed and developed to ensure more specific and secure feedback. New initiatives and guidelines also need feedback to ensure their effectiveness, so providing this also deserves attention.
Christofer Lepaste
I believe I would be a strong student representative because my main motivation is to develop medical education in Estonia in a way that ensures no student feels uncertain when entering professional life after graduation. To support this goal, I have been the Nation Officer on Medical Education of the Estonian Medical Students’ Association, where I have organised, with raving reviews, practical trainings (e.g. suturing, cannulation, casting), hospital visits, and meetings with doctors and residents to help students make informed career choices. In addition, I have initiated a collaborative project that brings drug-related first aid education into high schools.
For me, it is important to review the medical curriculum and, where necessary, implement changes that reduce situations in which students ask, “Why do I need to learn this?” I also consider it important to collect student feedback and ensure it is communicated to decision-makers. More clearly linking studies to practical work and future specialties would help increase students’ confidence and improve the overall quality of education.
Additionally, fostering stronger peer interaction within the field would allow future professionals to turn to any graduate in their field for support, not only their own course mates.
The Student Union of the University of Tartu should place greater emphasis next academic year on restoring university-funded scholarships, so that students can focus on their studies without needing to work alongside them. It is also important to ensure the conscious and systematic integration of artificial intelligence into education, similarly to how the internet and scientific databases are already used.
Sander Šašlov
I am conscientious and have a strong sense of my own opinions - I am able to justify and argue for them. I have been part of the leadership of EstMSA, which has given me skills in team management and in negotiating with cooperation partners.
I am proactive, and I believe that everyone who is affected by decisions should be involved in making them.
For me, the most important priorities would be contributing to the modernization of medical education and to OSCEs in medical training. In addition, I would like to contribute to the organization of various medical conferences.
In general, TÜÜE should place greater emphasis on student life, including supporting events and organizing larger conferences that would contribute to the overall quality of education and broaden students’ perspectives.
Oliver Mõttus
I have been in the MVÜK for two years and this year I have also been the chairman. Through this, I have stood up for the students in developing curricula, highlighting all specialties, increasing funding, and in the area of OSCE for doctors. I want to continue what I have been working on and believe that I can achieve a lot for the well-being of students!
There are many topics, but I would highlight:
1) Communication between all specialties;
2) Student-friendly implementation of the Doctors' OSCE;
3) Development of new curricula involving students;
4) Dealing with problematic lecturers and poor quality of teaching;
5) Student well-being (scholarships, mental health).
I think the most important thing is that the University treats us as equal partners and truly takes student feedback into account when making decisions, rather than just overruling us!
Brigita Maria Raave
Hi! I’m Brixu – a student who doesn’t really know how to “just exist.” If I do something, I go all in.
I’m running for MVÜK and KMIÜK because someone has to actually make those ideas happen that everyone keeps talking about. I’m the kind of person who says “let’s do it” — and then actually follows through. If there’s no clear solution, we brainstorm, grab a coffee, and try again — giving up isn’t really my thing.
I’m both the person who listens to your concerns and the one already thinking about how to solve them. Kind of like free customer support, just faster and with more heart. At the same time, I’m analytical and strategic — I can see the bigger picture and think several steps ahead.
My experience in EAÜS, MITS, and previous social work has taught me how to make things actually work — whether it’s organizing events, finding sponsors, handling logistics, or keeping a team motivated even when everyone’s already tired.
If you choose me, you’ll get a representative who:
– doesn’t make empty promises,
– doesn’t stop until the job is done,
– and always brings good energy to the table.
In MVÜK, I want to bring more energy between institutes — less separation and more collaboration. My goal is to build strong connections with students from sports, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and dentistry, and turn those connections into real, working cooperation.
I also want MVÜK to be more visible and engaging — especially on social media. If students don’t know what’s happening, then for them, it doesn’t exist. Good communication means stronger involvement.
In KMIÜK, I want to build on what is already working well, while taking the next step forward. The OSCE should be a clear, transparent, and well-organized exam — something students can truly prepare for, not just hope to pass. The clinical environment should also support students: a comfortable student area and a clean, secure wardrobe are not luxuries, but basics.
I believe the quality of education should be a key priority. Good education is not just about content, but also about how it is delivered — clear expectations, fair assessment, and feedback that actually leads to improvement.
It is also important that student feedback truly impacts teaching — it should not be a formality, but a driver for real change.
Angelina Roosimägi
A student union is an important link between the students and the faculty, and I have a strong desire to be part of a team that works for the interests and well-being of the students. Through my studies and everyday experiences, I have come to understand how important it is to listen and understand students' needs, provide them with the necessary support and promote making their voices heard. I am ready to take steps to solve problems and find solutions that would help improve our institute's learning environment even further. I am determined, goal-oriented, and do not give up easily. I value honesty, respect, fairness, cooperation and communication skills, and I am open to new ideas and constructive feedback. I believe it is important to create a trustworthy and supportive environment where all students feel that their opinions matter and that they are being heard.
As a student representative, I would focus on issues that genuinely affect students' daily lives and their overall professional development. The main and most relevant priorities would be the quality of education, students' mental health and the prevention of burnout, as well as involving students in the decision-making process. In everyday life, I constantly see students who suffer from heavy workloads and chronic stress and are on the verge of burnout. To alleviate this situation, it is essential to ensure accessible support systems for students, where they can seek help and advice. To guarantee student involvement in decision-making, regular communication with the institute's leadership should take place.
In the next academic year, UTSU should pay more attention to equal treatment, the funding of higher education, and certainly the quality of education. Improving the quality of education should be systematic and include structured collection of feedback, followed by the implementation of real changes based on that feedback, as well as regular meetings with programme directors where student representatives can present concerns. Promoting equal treatment would involve making invisible issues more visible, through anonymous feedback channels for example. Addressing funding-related issues would require cooperation at the national level.
Kert Kaspar Kirss
I am responsible, a good listener, and an active problem-solver. I am characterized by a desire to improve the quality of education and to promote open and direct communication between students and faculty. My previous experience in several political youth organizations, as a co-founder of my home municipality’s youth initiative, and as a member of my high school newspaper’s editorial team has given me the skills to communicate with different stakeholders, construct arguments, and clearly present and, when necessary, defend my viewpoints.
I stand for ensuring that students’ voices are genuinely taken into account in decision-making and that communication between students and university leadership is open and effective. My goal is to support continuous improvement of study quality, better align studies with practical skills, and expand research and internship opportunities. I also consider fair and equal treatment, a meaningful feedback system, and a supportive learning environment that promotes each student’s development and well-being to be essential.
In the coming academic year, UTSU should focus more on supporting a stable higher education funding model that ensures accessible and high-quality education for all students. I also consider the development of a more inclusive scholarship system important, providing equal opportunities for students from different backgrounds. In addition, attention should be given to improving study quality, ensuring better access to mental health services, and strengthening the impact of student feedback in course development.
Anete Püvi
I believe that a good student representative is, above all, a bridge - between students and the faculty, between problems and solutions, and between students’ experiences and the decisions made based on them. My strengths as a representative lie in my genuine willingness to listen, understand, and act in the best interests of students.
Medical studies are demanding, and I have personally seen how important it is for students to feel supported not only academically but also mentally. Mental health is a topic that is discussed increasingly often, but meaningful support must also be visible and accessible in practice. For this reason, I believe it is essential to foster an environment where students feel that their wellbeing and concerns are taken seriously, and where seeking help is normal and encouraged.
I also consider equal and fair treatment of all students to be extremely important. Every student should feel that they are evaluated according to the same principles and that their concerns and suggestions are taken seriously. A fair and transparent environment helps build trust between students and the faculty and supports the functioning of the entire academic community.
Equally important to me is the quality of education and clear information for students about their rights and responsibilities. When students better understand their opportunities, responsibilities, and academic expectations, they are able to approach their studies more confidently and make more informed decisions.
I believe that a good representative is not simply someone who speaks, but someone who listens carefully and can responsibly represent different perspectives. I approach this role with empathy, reliability, and a solution-oriented mindset in order to help create a learning environment where students feel supported, informed, and confident that their voices matter.
My top priorities as a student representative:
Supporting student mental health - contributing to an environment where students feel mentally supported, where seeking help is normalized, and where support resources are visible and accessible.
Ensuring equal and fair treatment - advocating for consistent and fair treatment of all students and ensuring that their concerns and suggestions are taken seriously.
Promoting quality of education - to gather and represent students’ experiences regarding their studies in order to contribute to continuous improvement and to create the best possible learning conditions.
Clear and transparent communication - helping ensure that students are well informed about their rights, responsibilities, and opportunities so they can navigate their studies more confidently.
Representing student voices - actively listening to diverse perspectives and responsibly conveying them at the faculty level.
In the next academic year, the Student Union should focus primarily on supporting student mental health and ensuring equal and fair treatment. In a demanding academic environment, psychological support must be genuinely visible and accessible, not just a talking point on paper. Additionally, focus must be placed on equal treatment and elevating the quality of education to create a transparent environment where every student understands their opportunities and feels confident that their voice truly matters.

What makes me a good student representative is my solution-oriented thinking, determination and desire to make university life even better for the student body. I am a team player and believe that a strong team can make everything happen.
As a student representative, I enjoy dealing with challenging tasks and I like to delve into an unknown topic in order to reach the best possible result. I have been a student representative at the Institute of Pharmacy for two years and I believe that during this period our institute student council has undergone great development and I still have fresh ideas in store for the future. I feel that I have plenty of energy and I want to use it in the student council work next year as well.
During my years as a representative, I have gained a good understanding of the role and its development opportunities - what I would like to do/see myself and what the students expect.
My priority is to make decisions based on the well-being of the students and to stand up for the opinion of the student body. I pay great attention to the visibility of different curricula in the Faculty of Medicine and do everything I can to ensure that everybody feels welcomed, seen, and heard within it. It is also extremely important to me to work on ensuring equal treatment for everybody, pay attention to mental health, and help students' financial situation at the University of Tartu.
More broadly, mental health, because it affects students' financial situation, quality of teaching/learning, and overall satisfaction with the university. Many students are either burned out or on the verge of it due to spreading themselves too thin, and although there is no magical solution the problem, we can at least think about helpful measures that UTSU could offer to the students.
Elise Koppel
I really enjoy interacting with people and seeing things from different angles. I am not afraid to be open-minded and accept constructive criticism. When discussing with fellow students, I often go deep and think about different topics and solutions to problems. I am an optimist by nature and I find that every problem has a positive side and in the end I find a suitable solution to every problem.
In my perspective, TÜÜE could place the most emphasis on the quality of teaching and providing feedback on subjects this academic year. Modern teaching and knowledgeable lecturers are the foundations of an inspiring and positive learning environment. The environment should support the student, not demotivate them.
Katriin Pensa
I am an open communicator, and I always do my best to listen to students’ concerns and help find solutions when needed. I believe it is important that every student feels their opinion matters and is heard. Having already spent a year in the student council, I feel that I have gained enough experience to achieve even more this year and represent students voices even better.
My main priorities are improving communication between students and the university, ensuring that student feedback leads to real changes. I want to help solve everyday study-related issues, no matter how big or small they may be. I also find it important to improve students overall experience by for example organizing events that help create a more welcoming and supportive university environment.
It is important to me that students provide more feedback on courses, as this enables student representatives to make real changes and find solutions to problems. I also consider equal treatment very important, so that all students feel like their voices matter.

Pean kõige olulisemaks just õppekvaliteedi, üliõpilaste teadlikkuse ja kõrghariduspoliitika teemasid. Kõik väärivad Ülikooli, mille üle nad saavad uhked olla. Tänu kõrgharidusstandardi muudatusele on just nüüd parim aeg panustada, et õppekavad saaksid kaasajastatud võttes arvesse ka tudengite hääled.
Helena Rähni
Olen üliõpilasesindaja olnud juba kolm aastat, mistõttu olen hästi kursis üliõpilasesindaja kohustustega. Lisaks olen väga avatud suhtumisega, hea kuulamisoskusega ning oskan probleemidele kiiresti lahendusi leida. :)
Anna Maria Saari
I am Maria, a 3rd year international student of medi
cine. Before this, I have been active in the international student council of medicine and in Taslo, which is an organization of Finnish medical students. I am running for a representative of Clinical Medicine Institute, because I see that my previous experience can benefit the improvement the quality of medical studies during the clinical phase.
As a representative, I wish to take part in the improvement of clinical studies of medicine. I think that there is a plenty of room for improvement especially with upcoming OSCE as now clinical studies are not corresponding very well with OSCE requirements. I would like to bring the teaching closer to those requirements and also to investigate if the clinical part of medical studies could be changed into more practical direction and more training of practical skills should be added into clinical courses. This would support especially international students and those who wish to work abroad (especially in Nordics).
My second priority is equal treatment of international students in the university. Quite often, many important details are not told/taught in English which in my opinion creates an inequality between Estonian and international students. As a representative, I would make sure that all important info reaches both Estonian and international students in time.
In my opinion, UTSU should pay more attention to the quality of teaching especially in English and the teaching guidelines should correspond better to OSCE requirements. Also, treatment of international medical students and especially the communication about upcoming changes should be improved as all medical students should be equal.

I spent seven years in student council at my hometown school, beeing as president for three of those years. During that time, our impact grew beyond just managing internal school affairs and listening to students, we had the opportunity to represent our student voice at the city level, addressing issues regarding the school system, school violence, and students' rights.
Now at the university, it has become clear that students here also face many situations where they need a place to turn—not just for academic issues, but for matters concerning their rights as students and, in some cases, even challenging a professor's conduct (several studeng are still afraid or have no idea who can help them)
I am a team player and a dedicated listener who learns new things quickly and builds strong professional relationships.
I am very eager to join a student organization that supports students on their journey. My goal is to help improve the medical education system (with all its pros and cons) while ensuring that students have the support they need to maintain their mental well-being.
- increasing the share of practical training: current medical education requires more hands-on clinical practice and active physical presence in medical settings.
- ensuring academic integrity
- creating a safe environment: preventing all forms of harassment and misconduct, both among peers and within the faculty-student power dynamic.
- participating in curriculum modernization: providing student input to update study programs, ensuring they keep pace with the continuous advancements and evolving requirements of modern medicine.

One of my strengths is that I've been a student representative of KMIÜK for a year already, and for that reason I'm up-to-date on the most important topics. I am punctual and I always complete my tasks by their deadline. I'm communicative and a team player, which is why I believe that teamwork in KMIÜK will be productive.
As a student representative, the OSCE is undoubtedly an important topic — more specifically, how information about it is communicated to the students. It is equally as important that students have the opportunity to practice their skills in different workshops.
During the next academic year, I believe that UTSU should pay attention to finding ways to gather more feedback from students. Unfortunately, there have been some surveys where only a small number of students have shared their opinions. As a result, it is challenging for the student representatives to understand students and their perspectives.
Triinu Luts
I am empathetic and can analyze situations from multiple angles, so I would be able to find constructive solutions with other representatives. I am also conscientious and care about the well-being of my fellow students, so I would be able to consistently communicate the wishes of the student body and implement them through participation in the decision-making process.
The most important goal would be to address issues of quality of education: especially to stand up for the interests of students in the arrangement of OSCE. I would like achieve clear instructions, reasonable expectations, and sufficient practice opportunities.
Attention should be paid to the quality of teaching: ensuring clear and reasonable expectations for students and better preparation for practical tasks. In addition, I would hope to contribute to a positive learning environment.

I am now studying in my fourth year at the University of Tartu, which means I have a solid understanding of how our institution works. Having been an active member of the Estonian Medical Students' Association for years, I have represented medical students both at home and abroad in various meetings - these experiences have given me a real sense of what it means to stand up for shared interests. In addition, over the past five years I have worked as both a nurse assistant and a caregiver in various hospitals across Estonia. All of these different roles have built a strong foundation for contributing to discussions in the medical field, and have developed my ability to notice what could be done better and how.
As a student representative, one of my most important goals is to ensure that higher education in Estonia remains free, high in quality, and accessible to everyone in the future. I also consider it crucial to address issues surrounding the practical final examination for medical students, so that we as future doctors are truly prepared to meet the needs of society, while ensuring that the topics taught to us at university are properly taken into account. In addition, listening to student feedback, mental health, and equal treatment are among my top priorities, because a good learning environment means that every student feels seen and supported.
Higher education funding and listening to student feedback, as well as implementing changes based on it.

I would be a good student representative because I have previous experience and I'm not opposed to stepping into rolls that most find unappealing.
My top priority would be keeping and advancing the quality of education.
Because of the reforms in education it would be a good opportunity to focus on education quality.

I have been a student representative for two years now. I find that my knowledge about the structure and goals of UTSU and also being active and ready to work for a better university are what make me a good student representative.
Top priorities for me as a student representative are to make sure that the voices of students are present and heard when important decisions regarding the university are being made as well as analyse and improve the universities good practice documentation.
UTSU should pay more attention to higher education funding.
