For the first time in history, the library will be open in the early morning hours on weekdays during one week in December. The morning library, which is organised together with the student union, will be open from 6:00 to 21:00 from December 4 to 8.
“The morning library can be jokingly called the younger brother of the night library,” said Olga Einasto, head of the UT library service department. “During the twenty years that we have organised the night library, we have occasionally heard that some students would like to come to study with us early in the morning, or in the early hours of the morning. We thought we would try it this year!” We at the student union also really liked the idea and were immediately ready to help organise it.
“The future fate of the morning library, or whether it will also be possible to study with us early in the morning in the future, depends on how many people come here during these five days,” said Krista Aru, director of the university library. “Being a morning person myself, I understand very well those who are already actively engaged in intellectual work at sunrise.”
So, the library welcomes students to the building from 6:00 on weekdays during the first full week of December. Since the building is paticularly quiet in the early morning hours, it is a great opportunity to do calm, focused study work.
The traditional night library, however, begins on the second day of the new year and lasts for three weeks. Then the library is open on weekdays from 9:00 to midnight.
