The application period to be a student representative at the University of Tartu has started

Starting today, March 24, it is possible to submit an application to run for the position of a student representative at the University of Tartu, both for faculty and institute councils. All students who study at the University of Tartu and who wish to stand up for the interests and needs of students can apply.

You can apply for the position of a student representative on the University of Tartu Student Union (UTSU) website until April 6. To do this, you need to fill out an online form, where you must write down your contact details and answer a few questions that allow us to learn more about your motivation and goals. The answers to the questions will be made visible on UTSU’s website for all students, who can decide who to vote for based on the answers. Voting begins on April 21.

Candidates can choose between the role of a student representative of the faculty and/or institute. According to Renar Kihho, the chairman of UTSU, the difference is that while the student representative of the faculty represents the students of their entire faculty, an institute student representative represents the students of their institute. “In both cases, it is possible to gain valuable skills, new knowledge and collaborate with students and lecturers. You can also take part in UTSU’s internal events and trainings, where you can find friends for life,” said Kihho. The student representative’s mandate will take effect on July 1 of this year and will last for one year.

UTSU’s general election schedule

  • 24.03–06.04 application
  • 21.–30.04 elections
