In May, student representatives, and in some cases all students, have the opportunity to apply for various positions at the university, within the University of Tartu Student Union (UTSU) and in the Federation of Estonian Student Unions. Below is a brief introduction to all of the positions. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us at tyye@ut.ee.
As a member of the General Assembly of the Federation of Estonian Student Unions (EÜL), you will have the opportunity to stay informed about higher education policy and actively contribute to it. The General Assembly is the highest decision-making body of EÜL, comprising representatives from all 14 member student unions. The General Assembly decides, for example, on the union’s general course of action and policies, approves the action plan, adopts the budget, and elects the board.
The EÜL General Assembly meets at least twice a year, and participation is mandatory. UTSU is represented by eight students at the General Assembly, one of whom is a member of UTSU’s Board, while the remaining seven positions are open to all University of Tartu students.
Submit your application to stand for election to the EÜL General Assembly HERE (deadline May 12, 2025).
NB! The election of the EÜL General Assembly members will take place at UTSU’s Student Parliament meeting on May 22, 2025, at 18:15 in the Senate Hall of the University of Tartu main building. If you are applying, it would be good if you could attend the meeting in person so that the Student Parliament can ask questions if necessary.
The Senate is the university’s academic decision-making body, responsible for the university’s teaching, research, and development activities, and for ensuring their quality. The Senate is composed of the Rector as Chair and up to 21 members, of whom students must make up at least one-fifth. The student representatives are elected by UTSU’s Student Parliament.
The Student Parliament can elect four members to the Senate, ensuring that all academic fields and levels of study are represented. A fifth student representative is appointed to the Senate by virtue of their position as a member of UTSU’s Board. The working language and materials of the Senate are generally in Estonian.
Submit your application to stand as a student representative in the University of Tartu Senate HERE (deadline May 12, 2025).

All members of the University of Tartu Student Union or alumni of the Student Union who have applied in accordance with the statutes and election rules of the Student Union can run for the Monitoring Committee.
The mandate of the Monitoring Committee lasts one year or until their membership is withdrawn by the Student Parliament. More information on the work organisation of the Monitoring Committee can be found in the rules of procedure of the University of Tartu Student Union.

The Board’s tasks are to represent the student body of the University of Tartu, implement the decisions of the Student Parliament, draft the student union’s budget, prepare drafts of the Student Parliament regulations and proposals, and coordinate the activities of the student councils.
